BETA is a term used by software developers which refers to their software being usable but not totally finished and maybe unstable, when some kind of software is in BETA (the 707 in this case) it goes into some tests done by "Beta testers" to see any problems, malfunctions or anomaly in the program.
That proceeding is made from Flight sim planes, to programs like Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and videogames in general.
After the program passes the BETA phase it goes to ALPHA, which is the version put for public sale or download. -
