As you have probably seen the thread in the Other forum, here is an update on the progress of ACV!

    Air Canada Virtual: Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Air Canada Virtual ready for takeoff...

January 16, 2005- Air Canada Virtual is pleased to announce that after two months in operation, we are just about ready to open our fleet hangars. Soon, our aircraft will be readily available to our flight crews.

Air Canada Virtual has placed FIRM orders for Airbus A319, A320, and A340-500 aircraft through iFDG aircraft distributors. A deal on the Airbus A321 and Boeing 767-300 aircraft are still being organized. We have also placed firm orders through Project Opensky distributors for Bombardier CRJ-200s and Airbus A340-300s. Contracts for the Airbus A330-300, DeHavilland Dash 8-300 and BAe 146 are also still being organized.

We are expected to take delivery of the A319s, A320s, CRJs and A343s within the next few weeks. We expect to place orders very soon on the A321, B763, A333, Dash 8, and BAe 146 and take delivery of them sometime within the next two months.

The two A340-500s we have ordered are on the production lines. A delivery date is unknown. We currently can not comment on the status of the Embraer aircraft we are scheduled to receive soon.

Many staff positions are open and waiting for people to fill them. Please visit us at http://acv.flycav.com/careers.asp to apply.

We are a virtual airline based on the real-world ailrine, Air Canada. We have been in existence since November 2004 and we intend on staying in the VA world for a long time to come!

Our website is hosted on a paid webhost with a .com domain, and our website scripts are all AUTOMATED! Our website features automatic pilot signup with e-mail account activation, automatic, but MONITORED flight report systems, and automated rosters. MORE FEATURES ARE TO COME, AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER.

We also have a pilot forum with friendly pilots and staff ready to help with any problems you have, or just to hang out in the Pilot Lounge! Come fly the virtual skies with us at http://acv.flycav.com

Hi George, I am the President/CEO of ACV.

Our requirments are approxamately 1 flight a month, if you advise me otherwise I will "slacken" the rules for some members. So you can go on over and apply if you wish! We would be more than happy to have you!

Well I will go ahead and reply here as you got to it before I edited my post. LOL.
Nice website, by the way, I found it easy to navigate around and find what I was looking for.
I will probably refrain from joining on two reasons- first of all is that I do not want to be limited in the aircraft I am able to fly. I've got just under 400 hours with Eastern VA in all sorts of aircraft, 717 all the way up to A340 and 747. I really am not interested in flying turboprops...I can, however, understand the reasons you have that requirement.
And secondly is the apparent Vatsim-only support for online flying. I am very active on the FPI network, not only flying but providing ATC at Chicago Center. Nothing wrong with Vatsim, really, but there are other options out there.

Do people have to fly those specific aircraft? I mean, specifically the IFDG A340-500 and not 's?

          Just wondering

Ok...yeah we have the rank requirements to better simulate real world airlines. It isn't a requirement to fly on VATSIM. You can fly offline, on another network, or really anyway you want, as long as you fly the flight. We currently have a member who uses X-Plane...its fine by me! Second, no you can fly whichever aircraft you want...as long as its in your rank category, we dont care where its from, I use payware..for TP and CRJ I dont use the ones that will be listed in the fleet section. Also...we have members from all of the world and Im sure other members would be happy to help with other networks when flying online...or would possibly like to try your network and see what its like. Just some food for thought...

            Thanks!

              Justin,
I guess my question then still exists as it hasn't been clarified- as a new member, say, joining tomorrow- would I be required, starting with zero flight hours, to fly only turboprops until such a time as my hours allow it? Or would I be able to fly with an A319?
I am a bit interested in the VA, just want that answered.
              Thanks!

I was thinking the opposite, could one STAY with the props and not upgrade to larger jets?

Hehe...sorry...ok...yes...Ill answer both questions in one...we have a Rank Structure in the pilot handbook...yes you will have to fly Turbo Props for a certain number of hours until you can reach the next rank. You will then have to APPLY for a promotion if you CHOOSE to move up to the next rank(answering question 2), so you can choose to not apply for the promotion and just stay TP's the whole time. We have the rank structure in place so we dont have inexperienced pilots flying the big jets, it also better simulate sthe realworld flying.

                  In short:

Question 1- No there is a rank structure and you have to apply for a promotion and pass the checkride with a senior official to be promoted to fly to for the next rank...and no we dont transfer hours from other VA's.

Question 2-Definately, that is not a problem!

Nope. Not up for flying turboprops for the first weeks. Hate 'em.
