  • A jumbo fighting a horrible weather. Alitalia 747 Rome - Palermo

Hey guys, just did another flight This time it's something bigger - a Jumbo and more challenging - a thunderstorm

    Aircraft: Boeing 747-200 by POSKY
    Airline: Alitalia "Bulgari"
    Departure: Rome Fiumicino
    Destination: Palermo Punta Raisi
    Flight time: 0:30h
    Weather: no comments

So here are the sreenies. btw. I tried my best to edit them so if u want to criticize them then don't reply to this post...I know I'm not the editing master so don't make fun of them

Here we are sitting at the gate and waiting for passengers and cargo. As u can see the weather just sucks

This is an unusual flight - Alitalia usually operates a maddog on this route, but lets say many people wanted to fly to palermo so we used Jumbo

Performing last preparations before the flight

So now we bagun our taxi to the active

Taxiing was kinda difficult as the vidibility was less than 2 miles in rain...

But we made it somehow...we didn't even hit another airplane

As it's raining heavily there is lots of water on the runway as well as the taxiway...so the wheels were splashing the water...

    Just arrived at the active

Turning to the active, which today is 25

Hmm...the takeoff will be quite difficult as u can't really see much of the runway :0

Turning as seen from the runway...

and as seen by the spotter (who goes spotting during the rain ?? )

Ready to begin the takeoff run. Waiting for clearance from the tower.

    Full power ! Let's go !

Gaining speed. You can see some water vapour forming on the wings and quite a huge ammount of water being splashed behind.

    Rotate !

Seen from the maintenance car or whatever standing by the runway

    Bye, Roma !

Climbing away from the "weather hell"

    Turning over the highway

Lots of turbulence as we climb away

    Finally ! The blue sky

    Climbing up to FL300

    Still climbing

You can see the sea below us

    Cool clouds !

    Begining our descend to Sicily

    The sea of the clouds

Breaking through the thick layer of clouds. using landing light for safety to avoid collision.

Over the sea. Water vapour forming again on wings, as well as inside the engines

    Spotter spotted her

    On final

    Another angle

    Touchdown !

My favourite shot. I tried my best here. Slowing down with water from the runway beign sucked into the engines as we try to loose speed.

    Left the runway

    At the gate.

    Wing view

That's it for today ! i hope you enjoyed them I did Palermo - Catania later on the same jet but I'm gonna post shots later

Looks like fun. But at those speeds, will you landing lights really help avoid a collision?
