  • Help! FS9 Lagging issues.

    Hello everyone!
I just upgraded my PC to 2.5Gb RAM( 1Gb+1Gb+512mb) and a NVidia GeForce 5500 256mb DDR grafix card. My processor is the same old P4. After putting all these in, my FS shows 30-40FPS but it keeps on getting stuck-going-stuck-going or simply- lagging! Never had these issues before withoputa G-Card. I even re-installed the drivers but no help.

Now please someone tell me what to do!

    Thanks in advance,
    Sreenath.

So before you were running FS9 off and integrated graphics card? Did you make sure that you uninstalled those devices before installing the new graphics card?

Thanks Chris for replying. Yeh, I did disable the onboard video card.

Now the problem lagging happens only when I turn on the lights (nav/bcn/ldg) of any aircraft. Any reason for this in particular or just that it needs way too much rendering? Any sliders to adjust for this?

      -Sreenath.

What speed is the processor? It may be the processor doing it. Also, is the RAM running at the same speed?

I rather think that the processor may be the problem here. FS9 relies on a good combination of processor, RAM and graphics. Upgrading two out of three can actually make things worse. It could well be that the RAM and new graphics are trying to work faster than the processor can manage their input. It's a bit like running fast and then really accelerating for a short burst...you have to stop occasionally to get your breath back !
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

well put brian. Im still not sure which computer i should get. I dont want to upgrade what i've got, because its a 5 year old bomb, but i dont want to spend too much money either. Would an average Dell or HP pavillion work well with FS9? or even FSX?

No, the "average" HP pavillion or Dell is crap. If you want something that will give you decent performance (especially with FSX) you need to either get one of the high end Dells (even then I'm still not sure of the quality/types of components that go into them, you'd have to find that out yourself) or build a computer yourself. You can build a computer with excellent performance for about $2,500 (USD). But no, the $500 Dell/HP super value package is not going to run FS very well.
