  • How To Fly on Autopilot

Call me a beginner but I am still thoroughly confused how to fly a plane in full autopilot on FSX. I manage to maintain the correct altitude, heading and speed however I can't tell a plane to turn at this point. Anyone can help me?

Use NAV on when you use FMC or select route point to point (VOR) first before you use NAV on. Turn NAV on it will turn right or left on route automatically itself. When you are apporaching to airport turn NAV off and HDG (heading ) on bearing course ATC will tell you turn right at 230 you must knob at 230 degrees heading. The plane will turn to 230. OK? Hope it helps.

The default Microsoft autopilot is very unrealistic, to say the least. Better yet, buy a halfway decent addon Boeing plane (PMDG and LevelD are a couple of the authors) and learn to operate the autopilot with its realistic features such as LNAV, VNAV, FLCH, etc. I guarantee you'll have more fun learning, and you'll come away with not only a knowledge of the autopilot but also the integration between autopilot, autothrottle, and flight management computer.
