Key things to look for not exclusive to a manufacturer
-4 gigs of ram
-Dedicated video card memory, don't buy something with an integrated video card.
-HDMI output on the video card
-1 Tb of hard drive space
I have an HP with similar specs an FSX run very smoothly.
...and if it helps I have an HP Pavilion with a Core(TM2) Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz CPU, 3 Gb RAM, NVIDIA 8500 GT graphics card and a 500 Gb hard drive. This in a machine almost 1 year old.
FSX works fine. Don't bother setting frames per second any higher than 30. The human eye can't distinguish any difference above that speed and all you'll do is waste processor power if you set it any higher.
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !
Yes, but theres one thing that drives me crazy, I run FS9 with a decent amount of add-ons , I am not very content with my FS9 frame rate so I spent some $ for a used video card (Radeon X800 GTO).
I fear that I have to not only spend more $ but also some 20 hours to install FSX with the equivalent add-ons. Or is it possible to use all my FS9 add-ons for FSX?
Single core cpu is not recommended for FSX as I understand?
"Today, we stop shouting." yes. Finally! I love it.

There are some pretty cool "barebones" packages on tigersdirect.com, which you might want to look at. I've been looking at this one, thinking this should get me 30 fps on FSX. I must stress that I am by no means an expert and am still researching things.
