  • Model Shops at Airports

What airports have shops specifically dedicated to aircraft models? I live in the US, so I'm talking about US airports. Does ORD still have that model shop?

The only airplane model shop near an airport that ive been to is The Airpane Shop, and thats in Las Vegas just opposite the airport. Thats the only one ive been to in a while.

No, it would be a short taxi ride away cause its on the opposite side of the terminals. For more info I would ask Chris Kilroy(the founder of jetphotos) about it, he works there (I think).

heres a link to his account, you can contact him from there i assume: http://forums.jetphotos.net/member.php?u=1

Yeah, its below the Hilton Hotel by Terminal 2. They've actually got some gemini jets on sale for 15$ there so I thought that was pretty cool.

The New England air museum isn't exactly in the terminals, but it is at BDL and the gift shop has many die cast and plastic planes (particularly of older models).

SFO had several, now they have just a few retailers that carry few models, mostly snap-tight. I've seen them at ORD and DEN used to have one in the B concourse.

My opinion of them? Over priced. WAY over-priced. Not worth the purchase. Get the model online, the instant gratification isn't usually worth the extra $10 in your pocket.

Then again, $15 for GJs is great. When I went to an ORD model shop some years ago, schabak models were $10 a peice! So it depends on the shop I guess.

In the early 90s? Try $3-4.

Yeah, but as you can see, buying a few schabak models at that price would be quite the slap in the face once you go online and look up their value.

I sometimes see even now a Gemini Jets plane for $39.99 thats only $19 or so online, or a Dragon 744 going for $50 that would cost $27 or so online. Crazy prices at some of these places!

At SAN, a 7/11 sized hot dog, a medium soda, and a bag of chips is $10.50.

But if you're stuck in an airport, you more than likely can't walk over to Costco. Hense the prices.
