Sorry to see you go, Max...

      Hi Max!

Although I'm not in the market for the models, I sure do hate to see you letting it all go! You know you're own heart, but mine breaks for you my friend!

The wife and I have been married 26 years.... at about year No. 3, she mentioned how much more space she could have in our laundry room if I didn't have my modeling stuff in there... then suggested I not build them anymore. I told her that she is my first love and always will be, but modeling runs a very close second and I'd hate to have to choose between the two. It was never brought up again.

Every man needs his "cave", for without it, he will be miserable... and quite impossible to live with.... then SHE'LL be the one buying models for you!

Take care my friend and I wish you all the best!

        Hey Frank,

        Thanks for your sincere thoughts.

I'm not letting it "all" go, I still have my home and beloved airlines, KLM - PAL and SAS, they will stay to adorne the little corner that I stil have

Atleast I still have something to spark up conversations whenever my dad stop over for lunch or coffee (who worked for SAS as a ramp-rat for 26 years) I have kept the SAS because of the old VIKING 747's and DC10's

        Thanks again, My friend !

        Best regards, John

Wow you are giving all that up for her?? Can't you promise her some space for her shoes in exchange? You have such a nice collection, sorry can not help you with it, I am not in models.

            cheers, Pamela

Would love to take quite a few of those, but I'm broke as a motherfvcker myself .

That said, giving up that entire large collection of planes in part due to your girlfriend, well, I'm not someone to criticise other people's decisions, but as the saying goes, "A GeminiJet is forever, but most girlfriends are not" .

If she is that non understanding, what does that mean about her practicality for a long term releationship? At least keep a few that you like the most.

Wow...man...so she loves you, but makes you part with all this?!

Damn. Gisel encourages me to go planespotting, collect models, spend hours putting AI planes into FS, all of it. Infact, she's always throwing me memorbillia left and right since her whole family is in the industry in one way or another. When we do move in, she even wants me to have a room dedicated to all my memorbillia. I take her spotting, flying, to airliner shows, AOPA expos...you name it! She gets into it because she sees how important it all is to me, she would never ask me to give up anything aviation related, before her it was my whole life, and now its the second biggest part.

I'm really sorry to see this, buddy. I was very into collecting 1:400 models at one point, I only stopped because I ran out of room for them at the moment! I can't even part with any of my busted up Schabak 1:600 models from the 80s with all the paint missing. I can only imagine what it would feel like to hand over most of my Gemini Jets. Horrible thought! But hey, I know love can get a guy to do some crazy things.

I'm trying to fight the urge to buy some of these so hard, John. I'm trying to save all my money for real flying, but...I haven't bought a new model in years...and that KLM/NW DC-10 is tempting...I'll get back to you.

                        You'll Be Saaaaaaahreeeee!

                        My Friend:

I did exactly the opposite of what you are about to do... I put my foot down... I told my now ex that I work hard for the money that pays our bills. I will buy you(her) almost anything you want as long as we can afford it, but when it comes to the hobby that keeps me sane from the outside world, keeps me lovable, and if you want to continue the relationship? This hobby stays or I will be gone within the week!
This was exactly what I told her and she opted in for the models. I also got her involved... She got to pick projects and or aircraft to model and the markings to be used. She always would come in to the study and see how things were progressing! I would tell her that things were going good or not so good, but there was always an input from her. There were even builds that were done on consignment that I had to do two of cause she didnt want to part with it! Go figure....
My advice is to get your loved one very much involved in your hobby! You will find that you will both be very surprized!

It sounds like his options may not be as vast as yours. If he is financially challenged and is living in a small apartment than perhaps the best option is to reduce the number of models. Perhaps there's something about his woman that could make the sacrifice worthwhile.

Much like you I made the same choice when faced with an ultimatum.

When I was dating I made very clear that I was willing to cut back on some of my hobbies and interests but was not willing to totally stop. I made it clear early in the courtship that aviation, and guns, was my hobbies and that I was loyal to my dog. Girl X assured me that these were no problems though she did have a few reservations.

I assume she was getting jealous of the time and devotion and money that I devoted to my hobbies and dog. I think it may have also been a control issue; I think she wanted to remove the competition so that I would spend more time and money on her; and I think she thought she could use that to control me. Anyway one night she tried to go back on her word and renegotiate our relationship.

She gave me an ultimatum; get rid of all your airplane stuff and gun stuff, and dog. No more airplanes or guns as a hobby. She said she wanted more money, more work and more sex from me and she wanted me to set a wedding date very soon.

My response was: nice knowing you, and I showed her to the door. She asked wasn’t I going to yell or get violent. I told her that she should know me better than that; I wouldn’t do anything like that unless it was necessary.
