  • Bad Info Rejection

    Hi guys

    Got the following rejected for bad info. registration c/n and genre.

    As it is a flying Thunderbird F-16 at RIAT I have no way of knowing what actual aircraft it is. Obviously genre I have somehow mucked up but can anyone advise the acceptable form the other info should be supplied in.

      Hi Mark

      There lies my problem. The Thunderbirds don't carry there serial externally also they regularly swap their codes on a day be day basis. There has been a lot of debate on other spotter forums with the general conclusion that no one was certain at RIAT what serial corresponded to a particular code.

      Therfore do I pick the same serial as the photo you illustrated, knowing that I can't be certain that it is correct?

        Hi Graham, I wasn't aware that was the case. I can't see why they would change serials it doesn't make sense.
        Most of the shots of no.5 we have use the same reg as the example posted above.
        I would use that one.

          Strange but true. Will do as you suggest and resubmit.

          Now comes the question correct method of resubmittion?

          Been looking around but can't see an obvious route

            Just upload the same as you did before using the reg & C/N of the above and military genre. Thats it there is no special "Re-submission" route.

                Hi Mark, I think he means they can change the tail number like 5 could be used on the number 7 jet if one of the single seater breaks. The T-birds that I've seen normally only arrive with 7 jets, the 6 demo birds and the 2 seater for the narrator/media.

                3 87-0303 5C-564
                4 87-0323 5C-584
                5 86-0281 5C-387
                6 87-0331 5C-592
                7 87-0325 5C-586
                8 86-0039 5D-43 (2 seater)


                The Blues change numbers the same way, but they do have their buno listed so it's easier to track

                  The T-Birds use temporary stickers, so there is no way of knowing which aircraft is which. I believe that serial is only obtainable from the cockpit. If this is the case, how do you know if the photos in the DB are correct? Could it be that the first uploader took a guess from the RIAT checklist and the others just followed?

                    not sure, this list was posted in the military forum and the serials are all from T-Birds so they don't raise a flag during screening.

                    Not sure if the Screening team wants to make it more difficult or just allow "if it ain't broken, don't fix it mentality keep going

                    You don't know, they don't know so I guess it's just totally speculation. Just like any other plane where you can't make out the regs.

                      From the official RIAT Checklist. The T-Birds consisted of:
                      86-0039 F-16D
                      86-0041 F-16D
                      86-0281 F-16C
                      87-0313 F-16C
                      87-0319 F-16C
                      87-0323 F-16C
                      87-0325 F-16C
                      87-0331 F-16C

                      No formation numbers were listed on the checklist for the reasons given previously. As can be seen, there's a couple of different serials mixed in there.

                        can I ask how these numbers were obtained seeing they don't have them on the outside of the jets (as far as I know?)

                        Just curious as I must be missing something in my photos.

                          I'm afraid I don't know for sure, but I assume that the people that compiled the checklist either got them from one of the crew, T-Birds PAO, or did it by close inspection of each aircraft on the ramp?

                            Why in the world would they change their numbers? that is just weird. atleast you have an excuse for not having the correct reg #. oh and Dave, i read on your website that you're not in the military....so how do you get all those shots from military A/C?

                              Chris, they change the large numbers on the aircraft in case one breaks and they have to fly one of the 2 seaters or use a spare. The large numbers on the Blue's and the small numbers on the T-birds are just stickers.

                              Most of my military shots are either from air shows or watching outside a base, but it has opened up some nice inflight ops here and there. Thanks for looking.
