The Blue's use paint, and if remember correctly the Blue's IIRC have 16 F/A-18's The T-birds are probably the same. Aircraft are swapped out quite reguarly for scheduled maintenance. Neither would be able to do the show schedule they have with just 6 show aircraft and the two seater.

A lot of times for shows on the mainland, The Blues actually flys with 8 aircraft. 7 Alphas and a Bravo. withe the 7th Alpha with a clean tail stuffed in a hangar near the flight line as a spare aircraft.

Now that you say that I recall seeing a number being painted on a spare on the show about the Blue's where they show they from their practice in El Centro and following throughout the year.

      thanks for the correction!

Why is it that sometimes shots of the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels are accepted without a C/N/ reg and other times they are not? Is it partially left up to the individual screener whether that is absolutely needed or not?

Most of my military shots are either from air shows or watching outside a base, but it has opened up some nice inflight ops here and there. Thanks for looking.
Thanks for the explanation. That makes more sense now.

I always was a big fan of military A/C. Your pics are just amazing! Your site is definitely one of my favorite.
