  • Ideally the cut off would be 5,700kg (12,500lbs) which is a recognised figure in aviation.
We apply a standard very close to this.
The reason King Airs are not included is that many models are above 5,700kg, such as the 350.
The T303 is <5,700kg so definitely counts as a small prop.
The exception is large warbirds, such as the P-51 and Spitfire. The expectation of members and crew alike when the categories were defined was that these should not be 'Small Prop'.
If in doubt you can always ask on this thread!

      • Small question: does a Rockwell Sabreliner count as 'vintage'?

        • No. Altough she is a classic she is still in regular service with the USAF and some Civil operators..

          • Embraer EMB-121 Xingú
Capacity: 8 or 9 passengers, Empty weight: 3,500 kg (7,716 lb)

So I take this is a small prop?

            • Sorry Pam, the weight I am quoting is maximum takeoff weight. The Embraer EMB-121 Xingú is identical in weight to the B200 King Air so I'll make the call....not a small prop!

                      • Yes, despite the fact it is still 'working' it is a vintage design.

                              That's correct.
