  • Unable to add manufacturer

Have been encountering this problem several times now.

Trying to upload an image where a registration has been assigned to a new aircraft type. Despite the manufacturer being the same and already an option it seems like, it does not come up in the "Aircraft" field. Requested to have the manufacturer, Aviation Specialists, added via form. It was successfully added after explaining why. Just went back today to try and upload the image again and Aviation Specialists still won't turn up as an option.

This is a search result of the registration I'm entering. It's the same registration assigned to a new aircraft but the builder is the same. Yet for some reason it won't return a result when I enter it into the selection despite me adding it via a form.

When was the type accepted? I did quite a few last hours. But due to caching it an take a few hours up to a day that the aircraft will be available.

Just tried again now and it still won't let me choose Aviation Specialists in the box despite letting some time go by. Wondering if I'll even be able to upload the photo at all...

Are you sure that you uploaded as a manufacturer and not as an airline/operator. There is an entry under Operator - General Aviation for Aviation Specialties but nothing under manufacturer.
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

Manufacturer. I did try it for General Aviation and nothing came up as well.

When I enter N260HP and try to autofill the info, nothing comes up in the Aircraft field even though the reg appears to already be a prior entry.

Please note that the manufacturer according to the FAA reg database is “Aviation Specialties” ..... not “Aviation Specialists”.

Edit: the type is an Aviat Pitts S-1S kit plane.

It should be uploaded as N260HP.
              Type - Aviat Pitts S-1S
              Airline - Aviation Specialties.

Aviation Specialties is the company that built and operates the Pitts kit, they are not the manufacturer.
The US FAA list the person or company that assembles a kit plane as the manufacturer which is not correct.

Ok thanks, Brian. I may just try to send another submission again and see what happens.

Edit: Just saw your last edit. Thanks for the info. I entered that info without issue. However, when I chose "Airline", no results could be found for Aviation Specialties. Maybe just submit a form for that?

Actually, don’t bother. It looks like all the other images have been listed as Aviation Specialties Challenger II instead of Pitts.
Naming kitplane manufacturers in the USA is a nightmare with the potential for hundreds of different names being applied to one type.

Ok I won't. What should the submission look like for "Aviation Specialties Challenger II"?

I can only assume that the type Aviation Specialties Challenger II was added manually by a crew member to the existing images because it is not in the available dropdown as a type. It is however available as an Airline option under General Aviation.
I am no longer part of the crew so this matter needs some definitive input from them.

If it was my image I would upload it as a Pitts S-1S Special (this is the only type name available in the dropdown that would be correct) with a short note to screeners. It’s all very confusing.

Should be all Pitts. Will correct it.

Erwin and Brain, I was able to add it to the queue just now with no issues. I left a note to the screeners regarding the aircraft type and briefly summarized the problem. Thank you both for your help... greatly appreciated!

Hey quick question... would a NASA aircraft fall under "Military" or "Civilian", despite being listed as Military/Government?
