  • Want more color--polarizer?

    Hi all-
I want to improve the color in my digital photos (Olympus C-730ultra zoom) so they're REALLY colorful (the saturation effect in photoshop only goes so far before it looks out of proportion). What can I use? I've heard some things about a lens polarizer? ANY equipment suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

By the way- not just for aviation shots- I'm going to Australia/New Zealand this summer, so I want to make sure my photos are as Australia/New Zealand colorful as can be. Thanks.

A polarizer is very useful in many situations where reflection or glare occurs. Water, windows, even leaves reflects light that can make that part of the picture overexposed. I highly recommend a circular polarizer for landscape shots and it will help improve saturation, especially your sky. Circular doesn't refer to the shape, but to the way it distributes light. Mine is Quantaray brand but Tiffen and Hoya are good brands as well. Remember not to use a polarizer if you're shooting from an airplane window. Commercial planes have plastic windows and you'll get a rainbow effect if you use a polarizer thru a plastic window. I hope this helped.

I'm going to Australia/New Zealand this summer
            Hi NOTAR520AC,

Just remember we will be in winter during your summer time. And this means all kinds of weather. You'll be right in southern QLD and NSW, but up north it's tropical rain season, and down here in MEL it gets freezing cold, especially at night.

Where do you plan to go?

            Regards,

            Rob

Righto Whopper! I'll be in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Sydney, Auckland, Taupo, Wellington, Rotorua, and Christchurch. How cold does it really get (especially in NZ?)? Will pants and a sweatshirt be sufficient or should I bring a heavy jacket?

                Hi NOTAR520AC,

Well, QLD is spring type clothes, SYD is pants and sweatshirt and for NZ i would take my big jacket. I don't think they get that biting cold wind from the south like we do, but they do have a ski season on the South Island like we have in the high Country.

                Regards,

                Rob

Thanks a lot Whopper- I've never been to the south pacific before, so I'm hastily trying to ask around to see what I'll need to pack, temp ranges, etc. We're going to be there during the Queen's birthday. =)

                  Thanks a ton!
