Nope, remains 500.
When will people learn there is no magical thing in a digicam that makes your lenses a longer focal length?

500mm with an effective 800mm crop...of course there is no magic involved, but for simplicity's sake 800mm is what it will end up like...

with the 1.6x magnification of the smaller digital sensor a 500mm will becoome the same as having a 800mm on a film SLR. The only camera this wouldn't happen on is the 1Ds which is like $8000

Well technically you won't get the same effect...the telephoto effect of the 800mm shot will not be present, it will look like a cropped 500mm shot. But what you see in the viewfinder will mimick that of an 800mm lens..

Thanks guys, I liked the 170-500mm but the 135-400 is what called out to me. I still have to get used to the weight, it is much heavier than my 'little' 75-300mm.
