  • Invalid hot? Why?

How is this invalid hot? Per Upload Guidelines:

    "
The following will be accepted as hot for 48 hours after the first photo got accepted:

    1. New aircraft type produced by a manufacturer. (including subtypes)

    2. New aircraft type / subtype for an airline or air force. (including roll-outs or test flights at the factory)
    "

This is a new aircraft type, so it should get accepted as long as it's within the 48 hour window. Please explain the reason of rejection then. Thanks

Yes, by the books you are right, it's hot and I added it

    But....

That just also shows the need we have about being more restrictive about hots because the rule was meant for airliners or important airfares. It never came to our mind that people would start uploading such machines as hot (after a 1st one gets accepted).

like you said, just a moment...

    - Those last 3 weeks have been absolutely crazy in terms of hot uploads from KOSH. Not only the new regs, which are cool but came with tons of wrong infos we had to double check and correct, but also tons of hot uploads for a new tiny sticker, a new cheat line, and many other borderline hot photo reasons.

Hot photos are VERY time consuming, due to double checks, appeals, reuploads and general speaking... abuse of the system.

As I've often said, we're all on the same boat. Sure, by the books, that sticker might be new, they might have removed the pilot name on the Navy F/A-18 but... Does it really deserve to jump the queue ? Can't it wait 2 weeks to be screened ? So if you think that your upload is worth making everyone wait a tad longer, so be it.

So yes, we have discussed a lot about how much we will restrict the hot uploads in the future, we need to find ways to make the queue faster and shorter for everyone

Now everybody can help a bit, starting with a cautious use of the hot photo function. The crew and users will really appreciate it.

    Cheers
    Alex

It's easy to understand the need to quickly publish hot photos of airliners intended to illustrate FR24 in order to have an up-to-date vision.
In other cases, is it so bad to wait two weeks ?
It seems that some are more concerned with jumping the line rather than bringing interesting / beautiful / useful images...

Agreed. But in terms of a new aircraft type, I still think it’s worth a hot. On the other side, the long queue contributes a lot to people’s desire to upload hot if they get even a tiny chance instead of doing the normal upload. So making the rules stricter or getting the queue shorter will be the best options.

A queue from more than 30.000 photos explained....
Thanks a lot for that Alex.
For me the Jetphotos team has the ultimate freedom to strict the hot photo rule to SIGNIFICANT changes to an aircraft (No tiny changes, like small stickers, spare parts..)
          And of course New registrations.

No to you in particular, but only to reiterate what I have expressed on other occasions.
We are all here, or should be, to have fun, to exchange our adventures in spotting. Instead, for a very long time, it seems to have become a competition. A competition where, moreover, nothing is won.
I would be of the opinion to limit the hot cases to a very few and also to make a distinction between civilians, or rather airliners, and all the others. This is because airliners are of interest to FR24 while all the others are not.

Thanx for the insights Alex. Now I know why the queue in the last few days was that big and why it took almost 3 weeks to get 'normal' photos accepted.
I generally agree with e.g. the 'tiny sticker' argument, but it's diffcult to draw a line in what's considered a tiny sticker.

At mahagonny; Looking at my figures of e.g. a single PC-12 I photographed 3 month ago which had more than 5000 views I don't think that only airliners are of interest to FR24.
              A competition in which sense?

I could drive just a few minutes further to an international airport and take pictures of airliners, but I'm not at all interested in that.
I enjoy photographing small planes a lot more and the fact that ~50% of my photos are first regs.

Well yes, even the smaller general aviation aircraft are useful for FR24, but they certainly do not have the same importance as the large airliners. IMHO
As for the competition, just read what Alex wrote here and in numerous posts of the same tenor in the past.

Same for me, I just never felt the need to upload hot of GA aircrafts unless they are new reg

Oh and one another classic Hot function abuse... People uploading the same new hot at the same time so that we can't reject any of them as invalid hot (As they were on the queue at the same time...)

Just a few minutes ago, 3 hots of centrum air a320 with stickers removed. All 3 uploaded at the same time...

Amazing that some people are spending their time only trying to find out how to abuse the system.

For me, that is much the same as people posting "regular" acceptances to social media just so they get the hits for "top photo of the day" on JP.

I am the one who abuses it. I will just be honest. And the question is, why wouldn’t you change rules for first reg hot then? Just write “whose photo id will be first will be accepted, others will be rejected”. This is your platform and you are the one writing rules. I understand how frustrating is to deal with that amount of pics, but to make it easier for yourself just edit rules. Sure thing it is only my suggestion, it is your decision to take actions. But it is annoying to wait for three weeks to get rejected for a vignetting which is visible only through “check for dust” and you have to wait two more weeks till this slot gets unlocked.

So why are all other traffics also tracked by FR24?

At least this time you said "IMHO", because it is, in fact, only your personal opinion, which I disagree, by the way. There are A LOT os spotters who enjoy general aviation way more than ariliners, and yes, they also likes to shoot a bizjet for example with a new paiting scheme the same way people likes to chase airliners with new paint jobs, and FR24 can be very usefull for this people too.

I myself can say i'm a commercial aviation guy, but I do like to have some plus regs from GA.

I got a rejection due to vignetting and the issue that is visible only with "check for dust" tool isn't even a vignetting.

                            yeah, this is annoying.
