  • Changes to Hot Photo Guidelines

    Hi everyone,

In order to further reduce the pressure on the screening queue, our hot photo guidelines have been reviewed and updated with immediate effect. Please refer to our upload guidelines, point 2.5. https://www.jetphotos.com/uploadguidelines/#2.5

In short, the changes will mostly affect general aviation, military and inactive aircraft.

What will no longer be hot?
    - Changes to a livery for general aviation and military aircraft
    - New registrations for inactive aircraft (such as aircraft in museum, stored aircraft and wrecks/relics). In this case, make sure the Vintage category is selected

We hope these changes will help us keep the general queue under control. At the same time we are making sure our database remains up to date and relevant to Flightradar24's site and apps.

We're happy to take away any doubts and will answer your questions in this forum topic.

    just after some clarification here...

if the most up-to-date photo in the database is (for example) a 737, but the rego has been changed to a GA aircraft, will this be considered hot?

Sounds great. Thanx a lot for trying to reduce the queue time and all the JP staffs hard work, especially since we got a glimpse of your work with the handling demotivating double accounts etc.!

Business jets also fall under GA right ? So if an all white gulfstream has world cup stickers applied for the trophy tour it'll no longer be hot ?

This is good, but here's another suggestion:

Photos which do no show the reg should NOT be accepted as hot photos (First Registration), as there's no way to confirm the reg!
I've seen pictures of planes taken at front angle (for example: face to face) being accepted as hot photos, and this is quite nonsense, it's a very easy way to cheat.

We always are very vigilant on that.

Which means that cabin or cockpit shots will NEVER be accepted as hot, right?

So, if it's an aircraft with a factory configuration of BBJ or ACJ, it doesn't count as hot, right?

Are new registrations still automatically marked as hot, despite not checking the flag?

I recently attended an hot air balloon race, and none of the balloons I saw are in the database. If I upload them, they will be automatically marked as hot. However, I realize they would be of little to no interest as hot photos. If I understood correctly, such feature was introduced so that newly constructed airliners would have a photo associated on FR24 ASAP. While some of those balloon do actually appear on FR24 (as I discovered while tracking them during the race), they would probably attract 0,00001% of the site traffic, and would unnecessarily clog the hot photo queue.

Yes they are still automatically tagged as hot.

New registrations are a priority for Flightradar24, even hot air balloons which probably wouldn't attract a lot of attention.

Not if you select the correct category. If categories are selected appropriately, the system will not automatically flag such regs. as hot.
