  • Why 1280 pixels?

Hi. Please may I ask why the maximum image pixel width is 1280?

  • #2
In my opinion, if images were really heavy (I mean 5000 pixels in width for example) Jetphotos wouldn't load fast. It would take ages to load the main page. Then the website wouldn't be useful to most people with slow internet.

Pictures at 1280px will hide flaws better and appear sharper than something uploaded at 1920px. I've uploaded photos that I could fairly easily tell at full size were blurry in one part (nose gear or something) but at 1024 or 1200 pixels or something you can't tell there is blurriness. Same with heat haze, very evident heat haze at 1600 or 1920 can be obfuscated at smaller sizes.

Basically it makes it easier for new uploaders to get the feel for editing for JP and get acceptances. Even still, after over 1200 photos, I'd say 95% of my photos are at 1400px or lower.

For the same reason that to look at a 9m x 3m advertising poster in the best possible way you have to stand 20m away.
It makes no sense to go beyond 1920px long side to look at a photo on a monitor

Because 1920 px width is the definition of the Full HD screens : a good compromise between image quality, size of files and price of screens and graphic cards...
1280 px meets the "standard" HD screens.

I upload almost entirely at 1920px not but that's because I learnt early on what was good and what was bad. Occasionally I will upload at 1600px because I know the image isn't 100%. You will get a feel of what is crisp & what is not so.

Are there still people with 1920 monitors? I wouldn't want to work on a 27" screen with a 1920 res. The optimum for me is 2560.

Well, yes, my work display is a 27" 5K - 5120px, but most of people watch photos on a phone or a tablet and the large majority of PCs are 15" or 17" Full HD laptops...

                      I seriously doubt this theory.

27", 15", full HD or 5K, the essence is you see a photo 30 centimeters from your eyes.
Without considering that FR24 would need much less for the app

What? Normal viewing distance for 27" should be at least 60cm.

30, 60, 100, in the end we are always talking about ridiculous distances.

Why do you think FR24 did develop an expensive pone-app ?
Additionally, almost 2/3 PC screens have a resolution between 1280 et 1920 and desktops (mainly sold for office uses) make <40% of the PC market, mobile >60%...
Market data are available everywhere and... are not theories...
