Hello! I'm a beginner photographer looking to buy a 70-300 lens alongside my 70D. I don't know which lens to choose because they're basically the same. Same focal length, no IS, has AF. Which one should I choose? Also, I've been avoiding the Canon 75-300 because I've heard it's terrible. Is that true? Thanks in advance!

Most of my photos here were taken with the EF - S 55 - 250 STM IS. A good compromise if you do not shoot at the extreme focal length.
On the other hand, I used the Tamron 100 - 400 VR for a long time. This is also a good compromise if you do not push it to the extreme focal lengths. Let it be clear, they are good lenses but not always suitable for the JP standard due to the tendency to be soft at the extreme focal lengths.

View the image quality delivered by the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens using ISO 12233 Resolution Chart lab test results. Compare the image quality of this lens with other lenses.
If you must buy a 70-300 zoom try the EF 70-300 II, otherwise as mahagonny said Tamron 100-400 is also a great lens at a relatively affordable price.
