  • Is a Sigma 150-600 C a good lens for plane spotting?

Looking to update my gear. Would the sigma be good and sharp, or are there better sharper alternatives? Thanks!

I do recommend the Sigma 150-600 for sure. Great value for money. It's my telephoto lens since 2019.

Many use it, many speak well of it. I say that at the extreme focal lengths it is excessively soft and useless for JP. If you need such a long focal length I would consider a fixed lens.

        My two cents . .

I have the Tamron SP 150-600mm G2 - you can get good results, but under ideal conditions. . lots of light and subjects not too far away.. also not too hot as you get heat haze.

The downsides are . . it weights a ton, and you very rarely use a focal length over 400 mm

Maybe look at zoom lenses up to 400 mm

I have actually found a Canon 70-200 mm f/4.0 L EF IS II USM for the same price. Would it be sharper?

They are not comparable lenses. The Canon is at the top of the range for that price range.

The first step is how much focal length do you need?

200mm seems to be enough for me, now that I think abt it 600mm would be overkill imho

Hello, I use a Sigma 150-600mm C with a Nikon D7500 and the results are surprising, it is an excellent optic for spotting, on Jetphotos I have many photos with that equipment.
