  • Blurred backdrop........

    Hello all..

The place where a stand at my local airport has a line of tree's as a background, I would like to have these come out 'blurred, with the aircraft movement sharp, ( the point near to touchdown) so far my photo's come out with everything in focus, how is it done....?

    thanks for any help...

Change your exposure to about 1/160 or longer. This will give a motion blur affect on the background and you will get effects like these,

Remember to move the camera according to the aircraft as well so that the aircraft comes sharp and everything else blurred.

This was shot at 1/60th of a second, 1/90th might be enough but probably not.

            Hi Matt

Thanks for the info, that is a superb picture I tried today and had some success, kept the shutter speed down, but had a few probs with the
aperture settings which resulted in some shots being very over exposed,
a little more practice is needed with my settings...

            cheers, Steve

With some practice and a little luck you should be able to get the shutter speed down a fair way.
If you have a steady handy 1/30th to 1/15th is not out of the question.
This was at 1/50th but i have a few beeter ones at 1/30th still to upload..

Oh come on Darren! That wasn't your steady hand, it was our perfect guidance of the aircraft into your shot that scored it!

The IS on the 100-400 doesn't hurt either, does it?
