Right now I am looking for a wider angle lens than my 28-80 cheap-o lens but I would like it a bit longer than the 80mm I have now so which one of these would be better on a 10D. I know not a ton of aviation photographs can be taken with either but I do use the camera for other things to

Not saying I would buy from either site.

If anyone has a better idea please post it here with a link if possible

I'd suggest waiting a bit if you can to buy and then buy good glass. I've found tha buying glass twice is a painful way to remind myself I should've waited. I have 2 L lenses (70-200 f2.8 and 17-40 f4) and have found the sharpness and quality is worth the extra $$. I bought them used which shaved off a couple hundred bucks. You can check the dat of manufacture using the serial number so you can ensure you're getting a newer used one. Here's a forum I use and have found it fairly reliable.

I really enjoy the 17-40 even with the crop factor on the 10D. I use it as much as the 70-200.

      Hi Rob
Good decision on your glass to be patient and go with the L series.
17-40 is a great lens for its price and the 70-200 every bit as good in both the F4 and 2.8 versions.
      Cheers
