the silver on the 300D looks pretty hideous and is obviously a marketing ploy to get more people to buy the camera, it was one of the reasons that put me off buying the camera.

I would certainly hope your not staring at the body of the camera, I hope you would be looking through the viewfinder. Honestly choosing a camera by the way it looks is moronic. People won't even know what DSLR you have by just viewing the image. It just boils down to you asking yourself if you need a certain feature. Honestly more people are going to be looking at the glass you have dangling of your body than at the body it self.

The fact that the 300D is silver is not the main reason I don't want a 300D, as you said it's pretty moronic to choose a camera solely on the way it looks (the silver doesn't help though :P). I've heard some negative things about the 300D and at the end of the day it is an amateur camera, I would definetaly prefer something like the D60 or 10D (or even the D30) where I can have much more versatility when it comes to taking pictures and expanding my knowledge of photography.

But jumping from P&S to DSLR is a very steep learning curve. Do you want to spend the money for a 10D or D60 when conceivable Canon could come out with a new product within the year? Honestly P&S to 300D to a better DSLR is the logical step. You can't pick up a 10D and expect greatness you will need lots of time. A 300D can get yo there cheaply, easily, and enable you to move upward confidently while producing images you can be proud of.

Of course, that's why you put in a lot of time taking pictures and reading the manuals, as I did with my C750. I personally don't agree that the 300D should be used as a bridge from P&S to something more advanced such as the 10D, it just seems like a waste of money when you can sit down read the 10D manual back to front and learn the ins and out of the camera. Another reason why I think the 300D wouldn't really be adequate for me is because I know quite a bit about photography already, so I don't really think of myself as somebody who wants a camera that will do things for me "easily," that's not what i'm looking for.

All this talk about the 10D and 300D i'll probably end up with the D30 anyway , which is still an impressive dSLR especially for how old it is. I'm on a tight budget so the D30 + 75-300 combo should be a good option for me.

I don't even understand why the hell everyone is running after 6MP cameras solely for the purpose of taking airplane photos to put on the internet...max upload size is 1600 pixels and with good glass that can be acheived easily with a D30...

I wish I had more pixels...but certainly not for uploading I want to make prints aswell as make money off of other forms of photography...

I wish I had more pixels...but certainly not for uploading I want to make prints aswell as make money off of other forms of photography...

Thanks again everyone for helping me out. I welcome any more suggestions.
I'm going to do more research, and I'm going to look more closely at the Nikon D100.
I found this web site Cameras express, the prices look very good and they sell packages. e.g. Nikon body & Nikon lense, Canon body & canon lense, and includes other accesories.

$569 for a 300D...$774 for a D70?!! Even just for the body, sounds too good to be true. By the way, the D100 is still priced at $1500 at most stores...the 10D maybe a better choice at around $1155 (buydig.com) or the D70 (believe it or not, it isn't a downgraded D100) at $1000. But either way, they are all good cameras

Thanks for the info Greg. Those prices are to good to be true , and I don't want any grey market pruduct. I'm in no rush, I'll keep on looking.
