  • Sigma 170-500 + 1.4x, 2x Tele-converter??

    Hi all,
I am looking at purchasing a Sigma 170-500 but can't find my question anywhere.. that being..
Will the Sigma 2x converter or 1.4x converter work with the 170-500??
If so will there be any quality loss?

    Regards Matt

It probably would work but you would need a tripod as hand holding that much focal length would be difficult.

      3 words:

      Forget about it.

The lens quality on that one isn't the best, and will be very very bad if you use a convertor. Also your f/stop will be too high for normal use.

My current Telephoto lense is a Canon 90-300mm USM...
Will the 170-500 be better or worse than the 90-300mm USM?

        Regards Matt

The 170-500 lacks the ultrasonic motor so focusing may be slower.

damn...if you want that much zoom just tape it to a telescope. Are you checking to see if the pilots have acne?

I guess, you will have to forget Autofocus with that combo.

                  Hi all,
thanks for the help, I think i'll save the little extra and get the 50-500mm.
No I didn't mean the 75-300 there is a Canon EF 90-300mm USM and a non USM.

Emu, plenty of people use the sigma 170-500 and 50-500.

                  Regards Matt
