An IF-ED lens is the Nikon equivalent to an L Canon lens.

    Glad mine's an IF-ED lens!

Yes, the G and ED are comparable when it comes to image quality. Both however are only medicore lenses compared to other Nikon lenses.

A much better buy is the 80-200D if needed with the TC 1.4 converter.

    Nikon 70 - 300 D ED

    Hi Serginho
I to have a D70 with the 70-300 G lens which I have had good results with.
The difference between the G and the ED lens is that the G has no apeture ring and has a cheaper build Quality than the ED.AS A340-Flyer said they both produce the same quality of picture,so it is really a personal choice in what lens you choose.
Being Nikon they are both good lenses.

I have the Nikon 70-300mm G lens for my D70, F4-5.6. Both the G and the ED lens produce the same picture quality but the G lens is cheaper because I think the ED lens has its own independent focus (which doesn't really matter as a DSLR does that anyway). That's what the store clerk told me at least. The G lens costs about half as much as the ED lens too.
