Depends where you are....lol
If you shooting it from the ground (say at an airport) then you put the airport name in the location field. If you are shooting them air-to-air then the country you are over followed by In-flight. Or If you are in Intl air space put International airspace - In-flight.

For Airport Location, I'd recommend using the "Off Airport" option and not listing it as being at the airport where you are shooting at. Airport Location really only applies if the airplane is being operated to/from(takeoff/landing) or on the airport (Taxiing/ramp)
I just put inflight w/ the state and then comment in the remarks what airport it is overflying. I'm to lazy to do the "Off Airport"

btw: sorry to hear about your MEM experience.I hate cops like that

Adam, if your at the airport with the intention of shooting planes, look up and see a contrail and shoot it why would you suggest you put "off airport" when you are cleary at the airport? I'm a little lost as to the reasoning behind this...

For Example:
You are standing on the top of the empire state building w/ a 2000mm lens shooting planes landing in Newark and LaGaurdia at the same time. When you upload the image, you dont list your location as being "Empire State Building," Rather, you say it is landing @ New York LGA and list the location as the airport it is landing at.
What I'm saying is, it doesnt matter where the photographer is standing when he takes the picture when entering the data. The location is inparticular to the contrailing aircraft.
Whether you are shooting contrails from your backyard or from an airport parking lot, Ask yourself, "Does this picture have any relevance to this airport?" Like I'm standing @ a grass field shooting cessna's taking off and landing, and see a CO 777 fly over. I'm not going to upload it so when someone runs a search, for the airport, and a 777 comes up after the search is complete.
I think all contrail images should be listed as "In Flight" since the aircraft is not in the immediate 'Terminal Area's' of an Airport. The plane is inflight/enroute to its destination. Therefore, it would be appropriate to list the location as being Inflight and not the location of where you are standing when you take the picture.
