I have the s5100, great camera. yes you can shoot in raw and you also have full manual feautures. they designed it to look like an slr and it does but just downsized alot. The 10xOptical zoom is great its like equivalent to 380mm i think, great zoom. And you can also buy 1.5 teleconvter for it and brings it up to 555mm. at the full 10xOptical zoom its a bit soft but a bit of photoshop never hurts.
All my photos were taking with it, only 38 , but it should give you an idea of the shots it produces.
I have one (click on my sig to see some examples). Here in Europe, the price has just gone down as well. For around €300, it's quite a bargain, IMO.
To sum up my experiences so far:
Pro:
- good handling for a digicam (several dedicated buttons, easy-to use menu)
- useful zoom range, bright lens (F/3.1 at longest zoom setting)
- reasonably fast and reliable AF for a digicam
- moderate colour saturation; slightly muted, typical "Fuji colours" (might also be disadvantage, depending how you look at it)
- decent build quality for the price, seems quite robust
- keeps going for ages on a set of good NiMH AA cells
Contra:
- relatively noisy images, even at ISO 64, like all small-sensor digicams
- takes a while to switch on and extend the lens
- limited dynamic range, like nearly all small-sensor digicams
- viewfinder is so-so (slight video lag that you'll have to get used to, limited resolution)
- vignetting (darkened corners) at certain zoom settings
