  • 350D Thoughts.

    Hey Guys,

I want to move on and buy a DSLR, I wanted to buy the 350D, but then many told me not to get it due to bad sensors and bad colors.

I was wondering what do you think? if I won't buy this I will get the 20D most likely, but, I wanted to get something cheaper at the begining.

Plus, What is better... the 75-300 f/4-5.6 or the 70-200 f/4? Will I have any problem if I'll get the 70-200 f/4 due to no IS?

    Thanks!

i have a 350D and i have no problems with it. Nothing worong with my sensor and nothing wrong with my colour.i use the standard "non fancy" 75-300 f/4-5.6. (thats all my pocket could afford at the time)good starter lens in my opinion.

If you can, go with the 70-200 f/4L. There is really no comparison, the 70-200 has much higher quality glass, and better build. If 200mm is a little short, just add a 1.4x extender, thats what I use.

If you can't get all that, then the 75-300 is the way to go, and good results can be gotten with it. But if you have a choice go with the L.

          20D + 70-200f/4 is the way to go. 350D + 75-300 is like...no...imo

I've had a 350D with the 24-85 USM and 75-300 IS USM for the last 5 weeks. Great camera and the lenses aren't too bad, the 75-300 IS tends to be a little soft but the results are acceptable.

I bought myself a Canon 350D in the beginning of April. It's a great camera to start off with. I'm using the 18-55mm and the 75-300 USM IS lenses with it. I would definitely recommend it for now if you can't afford the extra $$$ for the 20D.

I've had the 350D for a couple months now and love it. I don't care what the people say with the bigger 20Ds, this camera is worth every penny. I've used it with the kit lens, 16-55mm, 70-200mm f2.8, 135mm, and the 100-400L. Amazing camera if you don't have the money to go with the 20D.

I've been using one since just after they were introduced and so far have been very happy with the results. I'm also using the 75-300mm IS lens and the only time pictures appear a bit soft is at 300mm but I've always been able to correct that with some sharpening and/or USM.

If you're concerned about it being smaller than the 20D, don't be. I've found that I can hold the 350D just as easily as larger cameras. You can also get the battery grip if you want to make the 350D a bit "larger".

Oh, and from what I've read, avoid the 20D. There seems to be a problem with the 20D coming with a nice layer of factory installed dust on its sensor. So far I haven't had any dust problems with my 350D.

I have however, nothing drastic though, just my own stupidity..everything worked out fine of course!

Great post! I'm tired of people telling people that the camera they want/can afford is not good and they need to go with the next model. I haven't had any dust problems at all with my 350D, and haven't heard any complaints of factory dust as I have heard the 20D users complain alot about. Remember; it's the photographer, not the camera!

                        Thanks guys for the replies.

Now that you guys say all this, I think I'll go with the 350D + 70-200L f/4... but we'll see... maybe in the end the 20D... can't decide

                        Thanks again!

Good results can be gotten with either camera, and the 70-200 is superb. Also recommend the Canon 1.4x TC for the 70-200. Extends the range, and (at least in my pics) sacrifices virtually no quality, you do loose a stop of light though, but still, deffinetly worth it.

I love mine- has provided a lot of flexibility for my photography. You can shoot for hours on end with it too- around 600 shots w/o flash! :wow: I also highly reccomend the 70-200 f/4L. I'm going to get an extender for it, but the glass is very, very nice indeed!

Both the 300 and 350D are great cameras,

Other than the lighting on the two, not really much or atleast that I can tell difference in quality.
