  • JP.net Photography ID Cards?

    Hello guys,

This thought occured to me today. I was wondering if we could create a template for a spotting card. Which has our name, equipment used, and photo (optional) on there and other stuff. And of course "Jetphotos.net" on there. I think that this would be a great addition to our spotters. Also i think that it would also reduce the complications with the authorities at airports. Maybe this has been posted before, but i don't remember. But what do you guys think?

I was actually thinking of a business card type thing as well. I could actually give it to the pilots to let them check out my pictures as well

      go to www.vistaprint.com

I just purchased 250 business cards for $20. They have a sweet one with an F-14 in a circle flying overhead. To me it gave the apperance of looking through a lens.

That's my new business card I would think cops would appreciate a busniess card more than an ID card to a site that most cops wouldn't have ever heard of?

A photographer friend of mine made an ID card with her picture on it and her website logo. I think it helps having a second photo ID just in case.

That sounds like a good idea, i would try to make my own with photoshop, print it on some high quality paper and laminate it.

            Uh No.

There are so many complication and problems that would be created by such an idea. It has been brought up in the past and has been proven to not be a worthy idea, each and every time. Just do a search here, and at the other site and you will see a big long list of arguements of why it won't work.

Fallingeese, what do you mean by. "why it won't work." ?

We are just trying to make a ID card just as an addition to the spotting. Just to make all the photographers on here on a joint system. Its totally optional, i didn't say that EVERY photographer needs one.

I was thinking that one of us makes a set of different templates. So we all have ones that look similar. If you guys like this idea i say we get started on this soon!

Do you honestly think that some cop is going to give shit if you have a little name tag on?

I think that its a good idea, except the fact that security here is worried our pictures are going to fall into the "wrong hands" and become a security risk. They calmed down a little, but.......I would hate to see how they treat us if they knew we were posting these images on the web...

We are trying to get an Airport Watch program started here, similiar to Toronto and Ottawa, but the head of security at YXU won't even take our phone calls, or emails.......

I still wouldn't mind something such as a membership card....no one says I have to show it to them if I get stopped

What Marks meant was, that no ID card whatsoever - be it a JP.net or A.net ID-card - will help you regarding the security at US airports. And he's absolutely right.

A lot of airport people here at CHC seem to know what A.net is, but haven't heard of JetPhotos . You guys in the US would probably be the ones who might use those cards, security over here is no where near as tight.

What honest credibility does a card with your name and website give you??? Also, you just cant go and use JP.net's name either to do this. There are legal implications.

Like said before a cop could care less if you pull out some meaningless card. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but this is reality.

And who would get the card ?

Everybody with an acount - which would mean practically everybody ?
                          Only the elite members ?
Only elite members with XXX numbers of pics in the databse ?
Only selected people, selected by the team ?

If you want a business card, you can always go out and have your own printed. Any website-id-card will mean nothing to the local security people anyway.

Well, you'd have to look at the purpose of the ID cards.

From a security standpoint they would have no credibility being from the internet world and would be essentially useless.

From the standpoint of a user promoting their photography, I think it would be beneficial if used as a business card.

To solve all this I think someone should actually ask the airport authorities and see what they think. Who knows, they might consider it helpful.
