  • What makes you want to photograph airplanes?

What's the fuel that drives your passion for aviation photography? Why do you choose this hobbie over the millions of possible choices. Personally for me, it's beauty of capturing the perfect shot. Now I know I'm new here but I'm trying to make a mark. Any helpful hints to aid me in aviation photography?

I've been doing this for well over a year now and I still can't quite figure it out.

A longstanding fascination with aircraft. An interest in photography, rekindled a year and a half ago after a long interval when I bought a digital camera. The discovery of a.net and jp.net and the opportunity to share photos with a worldwide community of like-minded photographers. The realisation that there is so much still to learn, and the opportunity to learn it. The handful of occasions when everything seems to come right, however much due to luck rather than skill, resulting in a particularly pleasing photo.

Damn, Aussieland must be a different place than here. j/k

But my magazine cover of a jet hasn't hurt my relations with the ladies.

I just like the fact that aviation photography is a fairly tight community, see another guy out at the runway, go over to him and you start speaking the same language.

For me it's still the fascination that somehow all the engineers got it right and they really fly! Having seen thousands of aircraft now it still amazes me.

But getting the moment of them winning over gravity or coming back or having such a massive bird flying only some feet over your head is just gorgeous.

I just happen to have a massive interest in photography so these two things combine nicely .

A big factor are such sites like this here, though.

I've loved flying since around 2 years old when my dad took me for rides on his C172. I've also loved taking pictures since my first trip to England at age 8. I think airlines are fun to photograph because they're all so diverse. They can also be a good challenge to photograph landing and departing at high speeds.

This is word for word the exact same for me!!! (Except I discovered jp.net first and only upload here. The community is much friendlier and helpful imho)
