  • spotting in DUS-STR

Hello all, soon I will go on a spotting trip either to DUS or STR. I will go to the observation decks and maybe the direct surroundings of the airports, I don't wish to rent a car. Can anybody who have been there already give me infos about the facilities, sun exposition, equipment...? I did researches already on the web and found some infos about both airports but I would like some confirmations. Many thanks in advance.

DUS is very good - open deck close to taxi-way, 2nd deck on top of railway station - just take the shuttle train and you will find it. Entrance is 2 eu and the ticket is valid for both locations.

Thanx a lot for infos, but how is the sun exposition? Is it good lighting for photos all day or just morning or afternoon? Equipement like a 75-300mm is enough? I browsed the database to see what kind of pictures are possible there from the terrasse and it looks good. I found some nice websites about spotting in DUS and STR but all good infos are in german unfortunately.

Sun is good till at least 16.00 at the trainstation, but when you don't care about taking pictures with the aircraft in an angle you can take pics till sunset.

        Hope it helps

This is more than enough at the trainstation. You could us som more mm when smaller aircraft are landing/departing on the runway that is the furthest away.

Have a nice time at DUS and some nice visitors

Let us know, perhaps I can drop by.

Light at DUS is good until 15.00-16.00 on both terraces. If you have a westerly wind you can keep on shooting, when the aircraft turn for line-up on the runway.

Should keep you going till sunset. Which again offers some good chances for nice sundown shots at the terrace at the main terminal.

              75-300mm should be pretty fine.
