  • Possible trouble in TPA

I have lived and spotted in TPA all my life and never encountered any problem with authorities. However tonight I was in the bowling alley parking lot across from 18R (those of you who have been know where I'm talking about) I take my shots and as I'm heading back to the car the security guard from the bowling alley approaches me and begins to warn me that the sheriffs office is starting to crack down on photography around airports. He stated that he saw two photographers will considerable sized cameras (maybe fellow photogs) get ARRESTED for taking pics of aircraft arriving 18R. I told him that what we are doing is perfectly legal. He told me that according to the sherif it wasn't. Anyone out there might know who those photogs were. I have expect this guy to be full of it but yet it's still something to think about...

The only people that should be arrested are that rent-a-cop and the damn sheriff who just decides to just make up laws apparently.

The only thing they can hit you for is tresspassing (if you're on the bowling lot parking lot) and since there are no signs (and it's open to the public) they can't get you for that either. The Security guard was just talking shit to make you leave.

Yeah I mentioned the public property thing and he told me the parking lot was private property with public access, I really didn't want to argue and wear out my welcome so I let that one slide. The guy wasn't mean to me at all, he really didn't care that I did it. He actually told me he used to set up an easil and paint the planes coming into TPA, never heard of that but ok. Anyway I emailed the sheriff last night and we'll see what he has to say.
