Why does this only cover commercial aircraft? This site is for all types of aviation photography. I know the majority here is commercial but there is other hot news going on out there.

We do also accept new military type for Air Forces as hot and any newsworthy event in the military "world"... But you can imagine that we can't take all the new military paintsheme as hot as we would with the civilian planes...

How about the first flight of a warbird after restoration or after a repaint into new markings?

Nope, you can search and find 787, but it´s still not listed in the Boeing plane category.

Hi Oliver. My interest number 1 in aviation is by far warbirds... Show me any P-47 or DC-3 and I'll be more than happy. Compare to airliners it's clear that warbirds only have a small place in our website.
But.... how can you ask all screener team to know when it's a first flight after restoration or a new paintsheme ? We have many uploaders who try to fool us with the reasons why their photo should be hot.
I can understand your frustration but I do really believe that new markings should never considered as hot. We very rarely accept first flight after restoration as hot. If I remember well we took a couple of shots of the new Hunter flying in Holland as hot. The first flights of the newly built ME-262 were also considered as hot.

If I see some great event in the warbird world, believe me I'll make a ticker right away to attract interest for those pics. But I do also think that it's not too hard to wait 2-3 days to have your pics online, at JP we really work like hell to keep the queue low so you don't have to wait 7-10 days (cough cough) to get your pics screened (no I didn't say rejected !! )

Anyway if you think that sometimes we don't show enough interest for warbirds, please post in the forum and we'll do our best to improve.

Because you asked a Question I answered it , why you gotta argue the point ??? I'd call it news for sure, just not HOT.
The page is basically reserved for leading aviation and evolving events around the globe , some kittyhawk in a hick town of 50 ppl probably doesn't qualify....

It would be easy to find out if the photo is genuinly hot, theres loads of websites out there a screener could check, im sure some moderators know of them. If not id happily point the team to websites where they could find the news.
But if you will accept a photo of an airliner in new markings why wont you accept a warbird/vintage in new markings. Thats making rules for one type and another and thats not fair.

So why to you is it not hot news when some airliner is?
Your average Kittyhawk does not exist. I believe there are about 6-7 of them flying in the world. Every singe one of them is extremly treasured and worth a few million. Guys and girls spend years rebuilding them from wrecks. I dont think your remark about 'some kittyhawk in a hick town of 50 people' is wrong.
The guys and girls who spend thousands of hours rebuilding these machines and huge sums of money on them would proberably also agree with me. Once they have spent a small fortune rebuilding them they then have to pay for the upkeep and that costs an arm and a leg.
I cant remember the last time i saw on the news some airliner changed colours yet only a few months ago the local new coverd the first flight of a Spitfire after a near 20 year rebuild.

Because in that case EVERY warbird paintsheme would be special and hot as they are all unique but applied to only ONE plane which is not the case of a new paintsheme for an airline which is going to be applied on dozens of planes and that is going to fly all around the world. And your idea about the screeners having to check infos on other website... well we do it already but believe me if we have to spend too much time checking infos that would really slow down the whole screening process. Like we all screen with a few window open on like www.scramble.nl but at the end we always wonder why we have to find the correct infos and not the uploaders. You just can't imagine how much time it already takes to look for infos... probably more than 50% of the screening time I would say...
Do you have a few examples of photos you would have liked to be considered as hot ?
And I also ask you again, is it such a big deal to wait 2-3 days to get your pics screened ?

Yes i can imagine how much time screeners spend checking the infomation, i spend hours checking infomation myself for my records.
Okay yes true every colour scheme is different but if some warbird/vintage aeroplane has changed colour scheme maybe. It would be easy enough to check, theres a good few photos of most warbirds on this site as it is, to look at the other photos to check if the scheme has changed would be easy enough. I think hot should be changed to allow first flight of a vintage/warbird after restoration. These things deserve to be in the news. Or if an aircraft has just changed hands that can be big news depending on the plane. I proberaly see more on the web about a vintage aeroplane thats just flown after rebuild than i do about some airline thats just aquired a 747.

Okay an example. The Fighter collection at Duxford has just had a TF51 Mustang (for the people who dont know what this is, it is a dual control Mustang) rebuilt for them and flown across the adlantic in time for flying legends this weekend. It was supposed to be joined by a P38 Lightning but she blew a cylinder and got stuck. The fact that the lightning was attempting to complete its delivery flight from 1944 where it crashed on a Greenland ice cap and was eventualy dug out by a team from over 200ft under the ice is another issue.
I do have photos of her performing at Flying Legends this weekend but i wont bother uploading them yet as i know you guys dont think they are hot news so they will stay in my que of photos to upload untill the time i get to them. The arrival of her was front page news on almost every warbird website there is going, never mind the fact that the day before a extrely rare P40b arrived in a crate to fly on the Sunday. So would photos of the P40 thats just had a major rebuild before crossing the adlantic in a crate be consided hot? Oh shes all the more special as i believe she is the only intact (definatly the only airworthy) aircraft to survive Pearl Harbour in the world.

And yes it is a paticualy big issue if a very newsworthy photo takes 2-3 days to screen, i could loose out on sales there. It would also mean more publicity for this site if the historic scene was coverd in the hot photos section.
