Girls and boys in this forum

We screener really get a lot of pics to screen. But that beats everything. Why waste our time with pics like these two?
[photoid=115022] Should have been rejected for wasting my time. I spent almost 10 minutes looking speachless to the big size image. The only thing I thought, was "boy, what am I doing wrong with my camera?"

[photoid=115541] Fake alarm!!! Look at the big size image and notice, how everything is blurry, except the main subject itself. Another 10 minutes wasted, looking at this picture with my mouth wide open and again thinking about putting my camera aside.

    [Sarcasm mode OFF]

Seriously, and to make it clear, these are STUNNING SHOTS, which make screening a delight. Thanks very much!!

    Good job, Matthew and Colin

    Thank you very much

I think you've just made my mind up as to whether it's worth going down to 09L on Sunday morning!

thanks for letting the 'copter through - I'm really sorry about the blurry background, but the damn thing just wouldn't stay still

      Cheers,

      Colin

PS, I'd just like to add that I really appreciate the positive comments the screeners sometimes make when accepting images. To have a pic accepted is just fine - but to also get encouraging feedback is very nice.

Matt: I'm glad, I helped you to decide to go out to take pictures this weekend. Just one thing: Remember, you just uploaded your minimum acceptance standard .

Colin: better, the helicopter is crisp sharp and the background blurry, than vice versa :P .

        Cheers

The helicopter shot would've been very dull, had the rotors and background been frozen... the blur makes the whole image. Thats my opinion =) Nice shot indeed.

It's people like that who take up space in the queue.

j/k great shots. The 747 shot shows the size of the plane and the copter shot shows it in it's element.

                Stunning shots guys!!

It just shows that i've got plenty of work to do to get to those standards!

Right, when can i next get to MAN?

A quick question though? How much post-processsing goes into images like that? Is it lots or is that superb quality coming straight from the equipment you use?

                Thanks, James.

James - thanks for the kind words. In answer to your question, well, I'd say the two go together. Clearly sharp lenses and the Canon CMOS sensor provide the essential raw material, but to my mind, the resulting images do need a little work to get the best out of them. It's not rocket science by any means, but an understanding of levels, curves and USM certainly contribute to the final image.

                      Cheers,

                      Colin

Here's the original, resized and saved at 90%

I really didn't do much to it other than cropping and sharpening.

Virtually zero I think. I've already done the 5am start twice this week and don't fancy it again because I will not be finishing work until 9pm which makes it a long day, anyway I am not riding my bike anywhere in this ridiculous heat

There is a bridge over the M25 that gives you a good spot for photography before 7.30 am that I would recommend.

Those two days produced over 300 pictures (and a nice suntan!) which now need editing so I ought to make a start on that.
