  • Is this normal?

I've never touched up any of my pics that are on this site... lol is that something to be proud of? I just figure if it doesnt look like its good enough to be added to the DB, then it can go in my personal collection. I uploaded one a while ago on accident that i thought looked TERRIBLE, and it got accepted. Maybe i'm being a little to hard on my photos?

Can you show a few examples, like the one you thought, it looks terrible?

My personal opinion: Many of my photos could be uploaded without touching them, but levelling the horizon, cropping, sharpening and optimising colors are a little effort to just bring the best out of a digital picture. That's why I touch up EVERY foto I upload anywhere.

I wouldn't think of uploading a pic without first optimising it in PS - it is very seldom that some improvement can't be made.

I don't see any particular merit in uploading straight from the camera - as I see it, the captured digital image is the negative, the PC is my darkroom - using one without the other is like doing only half the job.

      Cheers,

      Colin

        Hi,

Theres absolute nothing wrong with optimizing your photos in PS, on the contrary!

I like Colinīs "the captured digital image is the negative, the PC is my darkroom " I couldnīt have said it better myself!

Most of the time I brighten my pictures and crop them but sometimes I get a picture that doesn't need editing for some reason. I have 3 examples of unedited that are pretty good.

I don't do a lot of processing. Most people over process their shots. Good planning and techinique before and during the shoot are better tools to learn.

Ive yet to see a digital camera produce an image that doesnt need sharpening. Or a scanner that gets everything right instantly (and I use some of the best there is). Its a very good idea always to have a look at the image in sRGB mode and different gamma (1.8, 2.2) to make it look good on pc/mac/ie/netscape/whatever.

Hum. I would upload a picture but the Upload Images link isnt working for me right now. I click browse, but there is no upload button, and it wont scroll down.
