  • Which Photo Is Better?

I have this one photo on the database:
    [photoid=114543]

and I am thinking of having it deleted in order to replace it with one shot that I think is better - I cant upload this one because it would be almost like a duplicate. here is the other one:

which one do you guys think is the better one? And don't mind the size difference - the a.net one is full size but I would make it 1024px if i upload it here - the one already on the database is 1024px.

I think that first one looks better. It's hard to tell how much better the second one would look at 1024 though.

Personally I prefer the A.Net reject (btw, why was it rejected?..... looks good to me). Anyway, the composition of the JP pic is a litle too loose for my taste, while the A.Net shot is tighter an nicely fills the frame.

      Just my .02

I can see why A.net rejected the second one. But of the two, The second one is a better photo. Both are dark, grainy, and slightly blurry. Is there something special about that plane that prompted you to shoot it under what looks like crummy conditions?

you are correct. Crummy conditions exactly. I was leaving Baltimore that day and could not wait for clear weather; this was shot at 7:30am before I hit the road to shoot at Charlotte later that day. The past 2 days traffic departed the other way so this was the only time I saw planes landing from that direction, which is the preferred direction for photographing planes at BWI. basically all of my DCA/BWI shots were shot in the same crummy conditions as the entire weekend was lousy weather up there in that area. The weather was much better in CLT and I had more success as a result. When I travel and shoot at a new or different airport sometimes I have no control over things like weather conditions so I just make the best of it.

I think that if the weather had been sunny my photo would have been even worse because that shot faces east and in the early morning you have the sun to deal with in the east...

I dot ever shoot in bad weather anmore unless its something REALLY rare or new. (like the China Eastern 346) Its just not worth it. If you want really nice photos, you just have to learn to wait for nice weather...

Wet runways, rainbows and spots of blue in an otherwise cloudy sky can make for excellent photos. A good photographer is not limited by weather conditions.

Hey by bad weather I didnt mean rain!!! I love rain and fog. Haze, thick overcast, and bad light bother me.

I concur with what Chris_SE stated.

There are indeed a large number of photo ops for the foul weather shooter and with the recent advances in digital photography the doors open even wider for the rainy day photog. Granted shooting under harsh conditions, well it is more of a challange to get a useable image but if you have the gear (fast glass in particular) and above all an infinate amount of patience, you will eventually be rewarded.

I even have one foul weather shot in the DB (last page KLM 744).

Here in Maryland we just don't have good weather. To see Sun I had to fly out to California.

                        To Chris K.

ok. Chris, I would like to delete that photo # 114543 of the Emery 727 and I will upload the better one. I really want to have the best possible version of each of my photos on the database, even for those that were taken in bad conditions.

Your photo re-upload feature is the same as a.net - only exchanging the exact same photo but it would be nice if you could have a feature where you could upload a new, better, but maybe slightly different shot for those times when you shot 4 pics of the same plane at the same spot and it turns out a different one might be better or a better angle, etc. - and at least that would maintain the hit count.

Go ahead and reupload the photo as you did before, and I'll make sure it's accepted.
