Not been to SXM, but that must've been from a balcony of one of the many hotels that stand in that area. You usually see those in pics taken from the bar to the right in that pic.

Dale was indeed floating in the middle of the ocean whilst he took the photo. I know as I was standing next to him at the same time whilst also floating in the middle of the ocean, as can be seen on this picture below. Please click it too as I like hits also

        Lol,

The real answer to the question is that we were indeed shooting from one of the nearby hotels that overlooks the bay (where we were paying customers). We were shooting from one of the staircases that have windows with seating areas.

          St.Marteen

          Hi James

I am planning a 1 week vacation in St.Marteen this winter and trying to locate an hotel on that bay.
The biggest one is a time share resort spot (Royal Islander Club) but to the left of it there is an hotel I can see on many pics but cannot see the name (not the Sonesta).

Would you mind telling me at what hotel you were staying.

The Sonesta does go further down the bay than you would think and is probably the largest hotel in the area.

            A similar spot

The best set ever seen from SXM. I don't recall how long the runway is, but after a long flight from AMS or does this flight do a stopover at a second destination before landing at SXM, or is this a direct flight from Europe? We have seen other 747 landings touch down after the piano keys, Im wondering why does this pilot touch down before, he "could've" easily have clipped the fence. Maybe a showoff pilot ?

KLM785 is a direct flight from AMS on the way in. On the way back it stops at Curacao.

Maybe. Anyway whatever the reason, it certainly got the airfield ops on the go the day after as we noticed them having a very close look around the area where she touched down/tire marks so it wouldn't suprise me if the PIC landed him/herself in abit of trouble.

                  Cheers,

                  Dale

Why I included the runway length was that the acft should then be light enough to land as a normal procedure and not like "how low can you go" landing after the nonstop flight ..

I wonder if photos like this ever catch the attention of the pilot's bosses...

I know the pilots check them out. Ive had a few requests from airline pilots wanting a pic of a 'decent' landing they made in SXM lol. I doubt that KLM crew will be so hasty in their request though
