Does anyone here know what the policy on tripod use at IWM Duxford and the RAF Museum at Hendon is? I would prefer to avoid using the flash, but conversely don't want to lug around my tripod if I'm not going to be able to use it.

Thanks for any help.
Nathan.
Nathan, ask at the admissions desk at Hendon for a tripod pass (as per their web-site) and Duxford seems to be ok as they don't mention them on their website. However, you could e-mail them first to confirm.
Not quite Hendon or Duxford but its is worth knowing that The Royal Scottish Museum operates a real draconian tripod policy at East Fortune.
It would seem that only professionals use tripods, so you have to obtain a permit (from the front desk) basically giving the copyright of your photographs to the RSM.
There is no problem if you use a monopod or flash.
Kind of left a sour taste in my mouth and I don't want to go back and considering there are only four aviation museums in Scotland that's serious.
Hendon:
When you arrive you go to the reception desk and ask for a tripod pass. They can only give out 4 in any one go for health and safety. Generaly they may issue 1 pass a day.
Duxford:
You dont need a pass. Just turn up with a tripod and use it.
Re copyright of images:
As far as i know both places do not take copyright of the images.
Thanks again guys. Hendon was great today. Unfortunately I didn't get time to go to Duxford. It's definitely on the schedule for my next trip to Old Blighty.

Any photos of the 1/5th scale mk1 Spitfire model thats now on show?
Hendon: I contacted the museum in advance of my visit, and there was a tripod pass waiting for me at the addmissions desk when I arrived.
Duxford: No problem with the use of a tripod, but you may get approached by the museum staff, to confirm you are not a professional photographer, and that your photos are for your own personnal use only.
East Fortune: I too was disappointed with the museum's policy on tripods, but was happy to fill in the appropriate paperwork as my photos were primarily for my own use. I later contacted the National Museum of Scotland, of which East Fortune is a part, who granted me permission to post photos from the museum on the internet, provided it was not for profit.

In over 10 years of visiting Duxford with a tripod i have never been asked by a member of staff if they are for my own use.
