  • Sharjah Update

As I will be visiting the UAE early in the new year I contacted the pass office at Sharjah Airport to see if photography permits would be available.

Their reply stated that the building work on the new terminal was still in progress and that they hope to be able to issue permits again by May 2007.

Sharjah is on my wishing list too.

Thanks for the update and it's good news I guess, with all aviation photography getting more difficult day by day all over the world.

Have a look at Sharjah through Google Earth and count the great Russian jets.

    Roel.

Excellent news, i'd love to go to Sharjah. Is it possible to get permit at Dubai or is that banned? I think Abu Dhabi is banned, but im not sure.

I was in UAE in 2004. Abu Dhabi had big signs all around the fence saying photographing was not allowed. Dubai was also a no no although they had no signs!

Photography in the UAE is always a problem.
You have to be respectful to other people given the culture and privacy enjoyed by the authorities in the UAE.

Anyone with enough ignorance can land themselves in trouble quite easily by not asking permission..

              What I heard
Abu Dhabi has always been off-limit, so do Kuwait, Bahrein and Doha.
Dubai used to deliver permits by the eye-dropper until the early 2000s.
I figure best way to make pictures at DXB is during the airshow which is organized once every two years.
Best way to make a lucrative trip in terms of pictures may be combining SHJ + DXB during the airshow.
