Hi to all ! This is my first post on this forum.

I received for christmas a Powershot S3 IS. Before I had an Olympus C-720. Big difference ! Any many more options on the new cam ! So i'd like to have tips and settings from users of this camera. I know there's different focus modes (center, AF point) and different compression mode so i'd like to have an idea of what's best for spotting. And to have sharp/crips/focus shots ... what's the best way to do it ?

Thanks all ! and happy new year !

    Welcome to the forum, mate!
As a recipient of this camera for Christmas also, I too have had minimal time for experimentation. Not sure how much experience you have, but as always, shoot in the best (lowest) compression modes (Large format, and Superfine quality, accessable by pressing the function button, at the lowermost menu.)
Apart from that, I would simply advise you to do all of the other things that you normally would (appropriate white balence, things like this) , as I really don't have a super-indepth knowledge of this camera either.

    Cheers and happy spotting, mate!

Well then, congrats to both of you and disregard my comments to the S2 IS thread...I'm sure the S3 is everything and more then the S2 which I was totally happy with. Give Santa a 'hug' and get out there and take some photos! Have a safe and happy new year!

      Take care,
      Brad

I was happy with and I used the S1 about two years ago. It was my first time tackling with digital and I liked it. I rather work with a digital SLR and have had experience with film ones but it was a good buy and make sure that the pic size is set for the highest setting so your photos will look good and can be edited. I do not know much about the differences between the three but it was a good buy and a good start to digital before going up.
