  • VR...I dont need no stinking VR (IS for you canon guys)

I got lucky as all hell a week or so ago and managed to pull off a nice pan shot without blurring the subject and without any form of vibration reduction or image stabilization, So I had to share

Nice picture. I'm looking at a 300mm lens with VR, but they are pricey....

I find I get the best results if I turn IS off whilst panning.

Same here. My shots with the 75-300IS are soft as fook at the moment, time to use non-IS for abit.

I believe the canon facts that sometimes some lenses are better off without the IS when panning fast-moving objects...

            But Nice shot Chris !

Interesting i would have thought the 'pan' setting on the IS would allow for lower shutter speeds thus allowing more bluring of the background.

Even so I was still stunned that that the image came out on my slow lens and was sharp enough to actually use. Camera settings were F/8 at 1/125 with ISO auto kicking the ISO up to 280 (200 is the min on a D70) in case anyone was wondering

I think it's about luck and how steady you are. Also, a heavier lens probably helps since it's less prone to shake. I've gotten some good and some bad with panning.
