  • LAX Feb 24-28

I am making my first trip to LAX later this month... I know about Imperial Hill and the In N' Out etc.. one question is where are shots like this taken:

I assume a parking garage? Any other good spots to know of? I am researching now...

It's the top of the Radisson Hotel and it is pretty much out of bounds these days thanks to a bunch of guys that took advantage of the spot.

You need to be a hotel guest and you need to speak to the hotel manage r I believe.

Yeah Rumor has it that a couple of spotters decided they wanted to get a better shot or view and jumped the barrier.

You can get shots like that in the parking garage that is near the Radisson but you need to park your car there on the floor one down from the top and stay in it until you wanna take a pic.

You can also hang out on Sepevulda but you have to be careful of cops and they might ask you to leave.

You can also get shots like this from the proud bird parking lot.

Some good departure shots can be taken from the beach too.

And dont forget about Santa Monica Muni its about 15-20 mins north depending on traffic

I'm always around as I live right next to LAX and can probably hang out with you on Saturday and/or Sunday

I've had nothing but major trouble the past 2 or 3 years from this garage. I wouldn't recommend it. I'd stick with Imperial Hill, Lot C, and behind the Proud Bird. The latter two you should keep a low profile when there (only exit the car when it is time to take a photo and immediately get back in).

A few of the locals still go there on occasion and they say as long as they park and stay in their cars they dont really have any problems.

Theres actually a Burger King near Lot C that you can get some good approch shots from. I haven't gone there yet but have seen many good ones taken from there, by some friends.

Thanks guys... I'm looking forward to the trip... I've done LHR and AMS, now to add LAX into the mix should be great. I've heard this is a good time of year to go as well. Either way, it will be a nice change from the 757s and MD80 parade at DFW.

While there is a good amount of verity at LAX there are a lot of 757's and MD-80's

When my parents come down they have had the best luck on finding good prices on the south side of the Airport.

I assume a 300mm lens will be fine for LAX also?

                        Hey,

if ur going down to LAX on the weekend of the 24 and want some company i might be able to make it down, and on the subject of the 300mm it all depends on where us shoot from!

My 70-300 works well for LAX..

As for hotels...I always book thru hotwire. Had the Doubletree last time for $66 a night. And seeing that that dump (Motel6) by the 405 has an internet rate of $65 you'll find me using hotwire from now on..
