Has anyone ever tried one of the lens rental places? I did a google search and found a few. I am looking at the Canon 100-400 L IS for a week's rental for my LA trip. Looks like around $50 or so. Any thoughts? My regular lens is a basic Sigma 300mm, the $120 model, I'd really like to get some prime glass for this trip!

I once enquired about lens rental over here in the UK ...

It seems that the companies require a deposit + the daily or weekly rental , when asked what the deposit would be 3 companies said the cost of the lens ... my reply was probably what your thinking .... " if i had that money why the f would i rent it "

strange really ... so anyway thats the UK , i would assume it would be the same anywhere ... worth a go though ..

    anyway .... good luck

Ive rented the Canon 500mm L. Beast of a lens, cost me 60 quid for 3 days. Had to put down the lens value on the credit card as a deposit first though. Somewhat worrying, didnt really want to drop the lens and have to fork out about 5,000 pounds though....

All was good though and i returned the lens and the deposit was off my card within a couple of days. I rented it through a pro camera shop called Fixation in London. Ive always found them very professional and helpfull to deal with.

think about that, if you only had to put 1/2 of the lens value down as a down payment why would you bring it back? They make you put down that money so you will bring it back. Once you they get their lens back, you get your money.

I wouldn't have that money either, but it's their only way to protect themselves.
