  • Someone wants to use my picture

    Hi all,

I just got an email from someone, I think from winglet-technology.com that wants to use one of my picture for there website and press releases.

    This is the email

    Re: Photo http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5935344

    Douglas,
I would like to find out how to retain rights to use photo ID # 5935344
for our website and press releases. Any help on this matter would be
    greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ******

I was wondering what I should do as I have never done this before.
And I added this picture yesterday, it came quick.

    Thanks
    Douglas

don't give them the rights to your photo, big no no!

You pick a price for them to "use" the photo. Either a one time fee or for a certain amount of time. I believe most agree on a one time, limited use as described.

depends on what you want, ask for $100.

for some reason your link won't work, here is the photo I looked up with the number you gave

A one time fee means that they can use the photo like I decide, but its still mine?

And a certain amount of time means that they can use the photo for a given period of time, but after that, they can't use it anymore?

      Thanks

Correct. I usualy go for a limited release copyright useage for multiple useage reqeusts from the same company such as yours. Say 6 months or a year. Usually when putting this offer to the company they are willing to pay slightly more than for a single use copyright.

A couple of links you may find helpful:

Id aim for the lower end of the prices these sites put foreward.

Still not over with him yet.

We need to verify a statement what the photo could be used for. Would you please provide a template statement or document for us to review?

Do you know of any already made good ones?

          Thanks, Douglas

Doug, I can email you one I've used with an artist. You could tweak it to fit your needs?

              Hi Dave,

Yes, it would be nice to see the contract you used with the artist.
I could then maybe change it as I need.
I tried to send you an email, but it didn't work. Anyways, mine is
              -dlncl at yahoo dot ca-

              Thanks,
              Douglas Noblet

Sorry Doug, I miss typed my email. I've send the form in doc file and also pasted it as some people have told me they can't open my word files from work.

                Best of luck

And, I was wondering how you sign? do you print one copy for you and sign it, and the other person signs another one?

                    Thanks
                    Douglas
