  • Pic taken bysomeone else, processed by me. ?

A colleague of mine had a day on our air ambulance some time ago and has asked me to process them.

Would it be acceptable here at JP for me to upload them under my name, making it crystal clear that I did not take the pics, naming him as the photographer, and that I was only responsible for the processing ?

No, the situation you describe is that your friend actually took the photos, so he is the copyright holder of the photos. The only difference would be if you configured the camera and composed the picture, then for whatever reason (putting yourself in the photo, for example) you needed someone else to fire the shutter would legally give you the copyright, but as you describe, no.

Eric hit it on the spot!

Whoever pressed the shutter button is the copyright holder.

You could set up the shot, meter it, dial in exposure, process it, print it but as long as it was someone else who pressed that shutter button they hold the copyright.

I should have mentioned that he would like to see them on the site. Best bet is for him to sign up with JP I suppose. Thanks for the answers folks.

          Hi Brian

As you mentioned. Best option for him would be to sign up here and upload the photo himself. Of course, you can do it as well, i.e. you can set up an account for him and upload the photo under his name

Actually what I was saying is that (at least IIRC according to american laws) whoever composes the photograph and configures the camera, and I guess if necessary adjusts the lighting, for the exposure is the copyright holder in the case where the person who does the above doesn't actually click the shutter. Post-processing doesn't count though.
