    Hey Will
Nice move swapping to the prime.
Your F-15 shot is one of the better ones i have seen from AV.
Having swapped over to almost exclusivly using prime lenses its really hard to suffer the difference in quality that you get with zooms.

My two small Eagle shots from the show, one with the 500 and the other with the 300.

Zooms simply dont do this stuff.

Ugh**.....Stefan. Quit it.. The thread is about the Canon. Go somewhere else with your Nikon. )

Edit: Ps. I got no problem with Nikon, I just think that the EF 300mm f4 draws the lines alot better than Nikons.

James , I've found the 1.4X II to be pretty fantastic on the 300 prime upside is the aperture going to 5.6 but I don't know anyone who consitently shoots at f/5.6

with the 1.4X II TC :

Thanks for all the input everyone
I am just kind of thinking about this investment - being only my second tele lens. I don't want to be getting frustrated by the fact that I can't zoom. This is why I ws originally gunning for the bigma. . . .

Can anyone push me over the edge to clicking 'buy now'?

Have you considered a good used Sigma HSM 100-300 4.0 ? Gives you kind of both worlds with very little fall off in image quality for a zoom.

well, the 100-300 sigma was one of the original on my shortlist.

How can I pick one of these? :
                canon 70-200/F4 L
                sigma 100-300/F4
                Sigma 50-500 'bigma'
                canon 300/F4 L IS
                canon 400/F5.6 L

                and maybe a 1.4x tc

As a primary lens my choice would be 70-200 F4 LIS + 1.4x, followed by 300 F4LIS later on.

Chucking in a vote for the 70-200 f4L (IS for if you want it), well any Canon 70-200 as they are all brilliant.

Here's another vote for the Canon EF 70-200mm (f2.8 or f4)
And yeah, get the 300mm afterwards.

Has anyone used both the canon 70-200 and the sigma 100-300?
Which of these is gonna be better?
btw, I would probably get the 70-200/F4 non-is

My good friend Dom has used both (be it an older version of the 2.8.) so he may be someone you could get in contact with. Check the Cap Av Group for his contact details (may take a bit for him to respond in the stage of moving house so he may not have the net for a bit). I've shot with him on many occasion and he always appears to get great results from the lens, on par if not better than that of my 100-400L, although he doesn't have an extra 100mm .

If he doesnt respond within a week or so, give me a shout and I'll get him to check his emails!!
                              Best regards,
                              Dave
