  • I'm coming to Malta. Advice appreciated.

I fly out to Malta on 14th May for a 10 day vacation with the intention of spending at least one day at Luqa. (It's essentially a holiday with 'er indoors in tow so I'm not likely to be let loose too many times !!)
I'm aware of the spotter's platform and the "blocks" locations and also how to get around to the parking pan on the other side (No. 4 pan I believe ?)
What I could do with is advice on the best days of the week to go and the time of day for good lighting at the first two options. I'll also have a hire car so getting around is no problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brian Whitelegg.

    Hello Brian

The spotters' platform is good for afternoons and evenings. Not sure which location you're referring to when you say "blocks". But in any case this guide might be helpful:

As regards the best days of the week, I would say Tuesdays and Saturdays offer most variety. You can get an idea what to expect from the official schedules here:

If you need to know anything else just ask.

What I know as the blocks is from the terminal, through the tunnel, turn right at the roundabout, to another roundabout take (I think !) the third exit. Down a dusty road to a block brick wall topped by chain link fencing. This can be climbed at the right hand end to see over/through the fencing. If I remember correctly there is a fuel pumping station in front of you.

This pic was taken from this location last time I was there by Malcolm Bezzina who was standing next to me. His shot was accepted, mine wasn't !!

OK, I see where you mean. It's good for afternoons and evenings, same as the platform. You can get some nice runway 32 takeoffs from that spot too - provided the planes don't rotate too early.
