I must admit I was also wondering if you are using AEB (bracketing) rather than manual exposure compensatrion. Perhaps you are already aware of thes facts but if not may be this will help.

Assuming that the 30D is the same as my 20D You need to Turn the On switch all the way up to realease the control wheel and then set the level of compensation using the control wheel. This will fix the desired amount of compensation until you choose to change it.

Using AEB changes the compensation level for a series of three shots (according to how you set the sequence). so for example you will get the first shot + 1, second 0, third -1, the exposure automatically changes with eash exposure in sequence.
So for each photo you want to take you have to take a series of three exposures before you can reset the camera.

I hope that this makes sense.

Are you holding the star while turning the wheel to adjust the compensation ?

It's the manual exposure compensation. Not AEB. I'm trying my way out how to set it, but it seems to jump back to "reset"

I think you need to explain step by step how you are trying to set exposure compensation. Then we can tell you if you are doing it wrong or the camera is faulty. From what you have told us so far we can only guess.

I guess my wording of the issue is wrong, so I'll try and show snapshots of it.

            Step 1.
I press the button for exposure compensation (same button for metering modes)

            Step 2.
I turn the big wheel at the back to adjust to -2..-1x.0..+1..+2

            Step 3.

But as soon as I push/press it half down the shutterbutton, it resets to 0...
I tried other cameras when I experienced the problem, during a spotmeeting, and 1D, 350D and 10D didnt have this problem.
            Only me with two 30D's...

Ah..I think i might have found your problem. I think you are trying to set the Flash exposure compensation [FEC] instead of the normal exposure compensation. You shouldn't need to hold down that button at all. On my 20d all you do is use the large dial on the back. There is no need for me to do anything else.
I tried your way and my 20d does exactly the same thing..you're just setting the wrong thing .

It was different on my 300d as there was a dedicated exposure comp button that you had to press at the same time as turning the wheel.

That’s the flash exposure compensation button.
Can you try it the way I suggested using the main control wheel on the back of the camera. You activate this by turning the On switch past On to the white line that points to the wheel. Then spin the wheel while looking through the viewfinder and you will see the arrow moving in line with the wheel.

With the camera set to the full on position (wheel enabled) simply select AV,TV,P mode you'll then need to depress the shutter button halfway once thats done it will let you move the compensation with just the back wheel, no need to hold down the AE Lock * while doing it , although it also works.

                    Hey Ashley, James, Will.

Gesuz, *pulling hair off my head*
I got it now. For once all I thought is that I controlled the compensation up there by pressing that button. (Wrong button)

Problem solved, it works. I tested it by cja's way. Thnks mate !

I really appreciate all the posts in this thread to help me solve this minor issue.

                    Thanks alot guys ! I owe you a beer(s)
