So my POS Fujifilm A400 has bit the dust (my fault-saltwater and cameras don't really get along) and I need a new camera. I have found pictures from this camera to be noisy and soft. Im looking to spend about $300 on a replacement. Is there anything I could get that could give me JP quality pictures (at least once my photography skills improve) for this price? Or am I asking for too much for too little? Any info would be appreciated ASAP.

For that price, and for the purpose of uploading to JP, I would suggest looking for a used DSLR. On eBay, used 300D's and 10D's go for between $300-$600.

But in all seriousness, the types of cameras James named go for pretty cheap on ebay these days, just make sure it's in good condition. And remember to leave some money for a halfway decent lens. Without one you might as well not even have a good camera.

Well these days a 30D goes for pretty cheap in terms of the standards it holds, however for an entry level DSLR you can get a D40 D50 or even a D70, there are good Canon last resort alternatives :P that could be quite good, namely the 400D and 350D. Good luck.

Check out different reviews on all the cameras mentioned above, don't judge your decision on the camera itself, as bodies come and go, but its the lenses that are the real investment.
