  • Atlanta and Peachtree questions

    Hello all,

Next month I will be staying at the Renaissance in ATL and I'm thinking of having a trip to Peachtree for a few hours, can anyone tell me if photography is good there and what is the best area. I have heard there's childrens play area and viewing point, is this any good for photography?

Also as I still take slides (will enter the digital age soon) my biggest lense is a 300mm on a film camera, is this ok for photography from the Renaissance or should I buy a bigger lense? I'm hoping to photograph the CRJ's etc... Also has anyone been to the Renaissance and can advise me of any particular room number to ask for.

Also if anyone is there the first week it will be good to meet for a few beers.

    Many thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
PDK (Peachtree) is a great place to take pictures. IMO it's better than ATL because you're pretty much guaranteed not to be hassled from the children's play area. There's a little elevated platform type deal that's good for photography. You'll probably need around 400mm if you want pictures of the smaller stuff leaving on the main runway, but for Gulfstreams and Challengers and most anything else you should be fine with 300mm. It's not as busy as ATL but it's still really busy. I think it's one of the busiest in the Southeast U.S. The play area is on the west side of the field near a big parking lot. It shouldn't be hard to find but you can find it on google maps.
    Hope that helped.

Hi Jordan, many thanks for the info. I'll be mainly taking pictures of the Bizjets rather than the smaller stuff.

As I'm still taking slides do you think the 300mm will be fine at the Renaissance or should I buy a bigger lense (without the missus knowing).

      Cheers

Well, since with film you don't get the boost that digital gives (300mm becomes like having a 480mm with film), a longer lens would probably help you out, especially for smaller stuff.
The way I see it, if you are going to buy a new lens and are planning to switch to digital anyways, just get yourself the digital body and switch to digital now.
