  • Shooting Concorde

Ok I know a lot of people might not understand this, but I have a flying phobia which stops me getting onto a plane, I love watching them though at air shows and airports and taking pics etc. Anyway my actual problem is that my wife has won two tickets to fly on Concorde and I can’t bring my self to fly on Concorde although I really want to, so I’m thinking I’ll take some pictures of it taking off and landing as a memento. Cam anyone either tell me the best place/technique to shoot Concorde at LHR or perform a frontal lobotomy on me so I’ll go on it!

    Many Thanks

OK, lets swap - tips for the ticket?

I know of spots at the 27L/R runways, but none at the 09 ends. If they're landing on 27L, head for a street called Myrtle Avenue, there's a green here where you can get shots on finals until they're over the airfield fence.

For 27R, park at the Visitors Center car park (on the Northern Perimiter road) and walk down to the roundabout near the BA maintenance center.

If they're uysing the 09 runways, I'm not sure of anywhere - but I've seen pics from them so maybe others can advise you.
In terms of shooting technique - don't do anything different to how you'd shoot any other plane is all I'd say. It's a unique moment though, so the only thing I'd pass on to you that I don't do is leave it to the last second before pressing the shutter - I've always snapped her abit further away than other planes (only marginally) so that I don't run the risk of filling the frame completely and chopping a key area off. Here are a couple of my pics of Concorde. The first was taken on 27R by the roundabout, the rest from Myrtle Avenue.
